Fabio Chironi – Wildlife Photographer & Filmmaker and founder of Spotting Nature
My name is Fabio Chironi. I was born in Italy in 1975 and have been a professional photographer since 2008. I speak fluent Italian, my mother tongue, as well as French and English, allowing me to work comfortably in international environments.
My passion for photography began underwater, exploring the seabed with my camera and discovering the hidden beauty of the underwater world. I later turned my lens towards terrestrial wildlife, photographing animals around Ventimiglia, my hometown. Along the two rivers that cross the area, I spent countless hours capturing migratory birds during their seasonal journeys. It was there that I developed a deep and lasting connection with nature photography.
I subsequently had the opportunity to live and work in Botswana for two years, collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism and Air Botswana. During this time, I produced photographic reports in some of the country's main national parks and nature reserves. This immersive experience gave me an in-depth understanding of African ecosystems and further shaped my approach to wildlife photography.
Since returning to Switzerland in 2008, I have continued to work as a professional photographer, covering a wide range of assignments, including events, photography courses, and collaborations with international organisations, including United Nations agencies. Today, my professional activities focus primarily on construction site and architectural photography, with and without the use of drones.
Since 2024, I have also expanded my work into professional videography and filmmaking, producing high-quality video content, with a particular focus on wildlife, nature and documentary filmmaking. This evolution has allowed me to combine my photographic experience with cinematic storytelling, capturing the behaviour, atmosphere and beauty of the natural world through moving images.
Alongside my professional assignments, I founded Spotting Nature, a project born from my passion for wildlife, photography and the African wilderness. Through Spotting Nature, I organise and lead photographic safaris and workshops in Africa, particularly in Botswana and Tanzania. I also accompany videographers and filmmakers in the field, helping them develop their projects and capture compelling footage of wildlife in its natural environment.
My workshops and safaris welcome photographers and filmmakers of all experience levels, from beginners looking to master the fundamentals to experienced professionals seeking to refine their techniques and develop their creative vision.
I work exclusively with highly qualified local guides who have decades of experience in the African bush and an exceptional knowledge of local wildlife and ecosystems. I strongly believe in a respectful, ethical and authentic approach to wildlife photography and filmmaking, where the experience goes beyond capturing an image or a shot. Understanding animal behaviour, respecting the environment and telling meaningful stories about the natural world are at the heart of everything I do.
